Then the watchman cried out and told the king. And the king said, “If he is alone, there is news in his mouth.” And he the messenger came rapidly and drew near.” (2 Sam 18:24,25, NKJV) The word translated “watchman” in the Hebrew, tsaphah, means to lean forward—to peer into the distance, to observe, to await (Strong’s H6822. By Guest Watchman Toney “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Introduction
In the course of an earthquake, it is frightening to be in a tall building, knowing that the foundation is breaking down underneath you. Escaping and running away from the building would be the ideal thing to do before the collapse, or you can wait in terror and how the earthquake will pass by quickly.
The foundation of this land is collapsing before us, and the walls of protection are falling apart.
Ask yourself this question: 1 “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” We’re watching our land turn away from God, His righteous path, and from all the biblical foundations that it was birthed and built upon. This is evident in the media that we are watch, the music that we hear, the government corruption, the education that we study and learn, the dysfunctional families, and the immoral marriages that lack godly principles.
All throughout America we’re able to see great sin, compromise, corruption, and moral deterioration. And hardly noticed, these are spreading to the Church as well. We’re seeing the foundation of this land being destroyed. As a chosen generation, what can we do to restore this foundation that has been laid to waste? Simply, the Lord says, “Your people will rebuild the ancient ruin and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” 2“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” 3 Our heavenly Father would give us full access to His kingdom, but unfortunately He can’t pour new wine into old wineskin. Therefore, the Elijah generation must come to make all things new that He may pour out the fullness of His glory.
Time cannot be restrained or stopped. With every breath that we inhale or exhale, life is passing away. 4 “For life is like a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”Each and every second, life is drawing nearer to its end. The clock is ticking, and the coming of our King Jesus Christ is at hand. For He will come as thief, and those who are sleeping will miss The Great Coming of the Lord. Then 5 “there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”It’s time for this generation to awaken and start the process of rebuilding the broken wall. We’re God workmanship called to be the REPAIRER OF THE BROKEN WALLS.
End notes:
The Broken Walls
Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. (Isaiah 58:12 NKJV)
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruin and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings. (Isaiah 58:12 NIV)
I. Definitions
1. Breach
Hebrew
1828 Webster’s Dictionary
2. Walls
1828 Webster Dictionary
Purpose: The purpose of a wall is to separate and to provide defense or security.
a. Separation
A wall provides separation between rooms in a house, limits the movement of people across a certain border, or separates two populations. The walls of Jerusalem served as a means of protection for the city by separating the city from any invaders.
God calls us to separate ourselves from the things of this world unto the kingdom of God. We become a new creation in Him when we are born again. In this new birth, God builds a wall that separates us from the bondage and the snares of the enemy.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV)
Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.” (2 Corinthians 6:17 NKJV)
b. Protection
Walls are built on the foundations of a house to bring protection. The city of Jerusalem has been surrounded by walls for its defense since ancient times. These walls were originally built to protect the borders of the city against intrusions.
In our lives, God builds walls of protection around us. These spiritual walls make the enemy unable to attack us unless God permits it or we ourselves allow the enemy to come in.
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. (Isaiah 54:17 NKJV)
“Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.” (Job 1:10 NKJV)
II. Hear the Brokenness of the Land
In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah hears from his brother Hanani that the Jews that survived the captivity of Babylon are in great distress and reproach, that the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and that its gates are burned with fire.
2 …Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. 3 And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” (Nehemiah 1:2-3 NKJV)
America’s walls of protection are broken down. The enemy has access to come in at any time and bring division, false doctrine, and false prophets into the body of Christ. The focus of this nation is on the wrong things. There is a sincere cry for revival and for the glory of God to fill this land, but how will God’s presence come if the walls are broken down? How will He dwell in a city or town if we are not restoring and rebuilding the wall? For the Lord is still searching for a man who would build the wall and stand in the gap, but He has found no one. He is not looking for someone to be a wall, but for someone to make a wall and stand in the gap.
30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV)
III. A Burden is Birthed
When Nehemiah heard the brokenness of the land he:
1. Sat down
2. Wept
3. Mourned
4. Fasted and prayed
4 So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. (Nehemiah 1:4 NKJV)
A burden and a true cry is birthed when we begin to seek God wholeheartedly. If we seek God, we will learn to hear His voice and know His heart.
Nehemiah wept and mourned when he heard how far the enemy had come into Jerusalem. During the time of weeping, mourning, fasting and praying his heart was broken to see the condition of his people. God will not despised a broken contrite heart.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise. (Psalm 51:17)
As Nehemiah felt the burden of the Lord he became a wall of intercession for the Jews.
5 And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments, 6 please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. 7 We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses. 8 Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations; 9 but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’ 10 Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand. 11 O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” (Nehemiah 1:5-11 NKJV)
Nehemiah prayed the will of the Father. If we ask anything according to the will of God, it will be granted to us, but only that which truly is His will. God will not hear from heaven if we do not pray according to His will, even if the prayer is sincere. This generation needs to learn to search the heart of God rather than man. Seek His face, and their own desires.
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (1 John 5:14 NKJV)
IV. Watchman Restoration
We have allowed the walls to be shattered, permitting the enemy to have his way in the church. This has given way for false prophets and doctrines to arise because the walls haven’t been repaired.
“ 7So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.” (Ezekiel 33:7-9 NKJV)
How can God raise up a watchman to warn His people of the wrath to come? How can a watchman see the sword coming? Why is the watchman not able to blow the trumpet? Because the walls of our city are destroyed. There is so much corruption and deception in America since there is not a watchman warning the people of God of things to come. The cry of the sin of this nation is louder than the cry of prayer. One of the reason is that this nation is not crying out in harmony with the will God. We are trying to focus on the great things, but we forget the small things. But when the walls of this nations are restored, they will protect us from any enemy attack. They will allow God to raise up a watchman that will blow the trumpet to warn of things to come.
V. Six Important Steps to Rebuild the Broken Walls
1. Examination
11So I came to Jerusalem and was there three days. 12 Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me; I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem; nor was there any animal with me, except the one on which I rode. 13 And I went out by night through the Valley Gate to the Serpent Well and the Refuse Gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which were burned with fire. 14 Then I went on to the Fountain Gate and to the King’s Pool, but there was no room for the animal under me to pass. 15 So I went up in the night by the valley, and viewed the wall; then I turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned. 16 And the officials did not know where I had gone or what I had done; I had not yet told the Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials, or the others who did the work. (Nehemiah 2:11-16 NKJV)
Examination is a major key to know where we need to build a wall and bring restoration. Before any rebuilding begins, there has to be an examination of the damage.
We need examine the broken walls in three different areas:
a. Our life
• Is there anything that we’re allowing in our life that is distracting us from walking with God?
b. The body of Christ
• Why is the body of Christ not walking in the fullness of Jesus? What are the walls that are broken that are allowing the enemy to penetrate in?
c. Nation, city, and town
• What wickedness in the town, city, or nation is causing mankind to fall into the hand of Satan?
2. Companionship
17 Then I said to them, “You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.” 18 And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me. So they said, “Let us rise up and build.” Then they set their hands to this good work. (Nehemiah 2:17-18 NKJV)
Nehemiah communicated the desire that God had put in his heart with his brethren. The vision that God put in your heart to do, do not do it alone, for two are better than one.
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NKJV)
3. Obstacles of the Enemy
But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they laughed at us and despised us, and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?” (Nehemiah 2:19)
The enemy comes to rob, kill, and destroy. He will try to bring confusion to prevent us from doing the will of the Father. Whatever God put in our heart to do, we do it by faith. It doesn’t matter what the circumstance look like, we need to walk by faith and not by sight; for the things that are not seen are eternal.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10 NKJV)
4. Triumphant Purpose of God
So I answered them, and said to them, “The God of heaven Himself will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no heritage or right or memorial in Jerusalem.” (Nehemiah 2:20 NKJV)
Walking in God’s divine purpose will cause the enemy to the have no authority. No enemy is able stand before you, for the Lord protects those who walk in obedience to His will.
No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. (Joshua 1:5 NKJV)
“They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.” (Jeremiah 1:19 NKJV)
5. Perseverance

7Now it happened, when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the walls of Jerusalem were being restored and the gaps were beginning to be closed, that they became very angry, 8 and all of them conspired together to come and attack Jerusalem and create confusion. (Nehemiah 4:7-8 NKJV)
In the rebuilding process the gaps of the wall begin to close. At this stage, the enemy will be determined to create obstacles to prevent the work from being accomplished. He will try to attack to bring confusion. But we must persevere and endure to the end of the race. What matters is not how we start the race, but how we finish it. We must finish the race stronger than we started.

Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. (James 5:11 NKJV)
“They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.” (Jeremiah 1:19 NKJV)
6. Restoration of True Doctrine and Worship
Website Watchman 2 5 6 Nkjv Bible Gateway
1 Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel. 2 So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month. 3 Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. 6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. (Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6 NKJV)
When the broken walls are repaired, true doctrine and worship will be restored because the enemy will no longer have access to enter through any gaps or cracks.

The walls of this nation must be without breaches for God to come in the fullness of His glory. Then He will dwell in the midst of us.
